So, in the process of getting ready to send him off, we were also trying to conceive! SHUT THE FRONT DOOR! Me...a mother! Yeah right, have you met me? But, I had just started feeling like it was time. Plus, I have this irrational feeling that I am quickly becoming old as dirt and before long all of inside will dry up and I will just turn to dust at any moment. It's weird, I know, but I am having a mid-twenties life crisis.
B had also co-signed the idea to make a baby. Really, without him on board it probably wouldn't have worked out so well for me.
The first month, nothing. The second month, nothing. The third month, nothing. I started to question how these "accidental" pregnancies happen all the time! How did people get pregnant with just one try...or without even trying! But, I also knew people who had tried for years to get pregnant and some who still are unable to conceive, so I wasn’t going to get down about it.
For us the fourth month was a charm. I was 10...that's right...10 days late in February, because God likes to tease me sometimes, but no pregnancy. I was a crazy person testing at home, went to have blood drawn twice at the doctor and finally made an appointment with my lady doctor because I was certain if I wasn't pregnant, I must be dying.
After the visit, I was told either that I was either in the plantation stage, or I would be starting my period very soon. Well, thanks.
The next day I started.
So, in March, when I realized I was three days late. I was like oh, here we go again. We were on our way home from a weekend trip to Canada. On the way back on base, I told Blake to stop by the BX so I could get a test. I only got one; knowing it would be negative and then we went home.
I walked straight to the bathroom, you know what comes next. Before I had a chance to put the cap back on the end, the little + sign showed up clear as day. I was in total shocked. I yelled B’s name and he came in. I showed him the test. He, being the sharp one, says “What does that mean?” Ok, I will spell this out for you baby. See this plus sign, it means positive, positive means pregnant!!!
I don’t think he believed me! After another at home test and some blood work, it was official! Baby on board! I called my sister to tell her, she didn’t believe me either! Lol! I told her to go to our parents’ house and not to tell them. Then B and I Skyped them, I couldn’t believe every one was home at the same time. I then held the positive test up to the screen. Because I somehow managed to marry my father’s counterpart, my dad said, “What is that?” Then we told them that we were having a baby!
Our first doctor’s appointment was on May 6th. My doctor is awesome and I couldn’t be more excited to have him as my doctor. On our first visit we were able to see our baby. I couldn’t believe it, I started laughing and crying at the same time. That little baby was doing somersaults in my belly! I wanted to look at B’s face to see his expression and to see if I could tell what he was thinking. But, I could not take my eyes off of the screen. I wanted to see every second of that little baby bouncing around that I could. The doctor printed us a picture, our baby’s first picture. He said the best he could get for us was an action shot, because literally, the baby was a wild child! It came out looking more like a turtle than a tiny human baby, but adorable none the less.
I called my mom and my sister and told them both I was having twins! My mom didn’t believe me, but my sister actually told the first person in her sight that her sister was having twins!! I cried when I talked to them telling them about our experience and seeing the baby for the first time.
People tell you how amazing it is, seeing your baby for the first time on that screen and hearing the heartbeat. But, it just something that you cannot understand until you see it for yourself. It was more amazing than anything I had seen before. I am getting a little teary now remembering it.
We go for our second appointment next week. I am not sure if I will be able to stand myself until then…

You are getting deployed....(pause)... NOT!
Well, since it has been a year practically since I was an active blogger, B and I have experienced a bit more than just the weather changing.
You are told from the beginning to except the unexpected with the Military life. Hurry up and wait is another good one that is true to life.
The last of October B got news that he would be deploying the first of December. Not, the shortest notice ever, but a bit shocking still. With just a few weeks to prepare for his deployment, things started to get a little crazy. We planned a fast trip home in November to visit with our families. It was so last minute and unplanned that we didn't get to see everyone we wanted to see and do everything that we wanted to do. But, we got to go home for a few days at least.
We returned with one week left before his deployment. I cried, a lot. Then, on Monday he went to work. He had to finish some paper work for out processing and prepare for his flight out on that Thursday.
I was at home, probably moping when B called. He said, "Guess what!". I, not being in the mood simply asked, what. He said, "My deployment has been canceled." I remind you, this is three days before he was set to fly out. So I responded, "Shut up, that is not funny."
Well, it turned out to be true. Three days before I was to take him to the airport, his deployment was canceled. Oh-my-gosh! I was so excited! He would be home for all the things I thought he would miss! Our second wedding anniversary, Christmas, New Year's 2011, his birthday, Valentines, Easter...you get the picture.
Thank you Air Force, for the month long whirl wind ;) But, mostly, thank you for not needing my husband this time!

Really, it's almost been a year!?
Has it really been nearly a year since my last post? It seems that after my mom and brother came last summer and took Jbaby back home with them, I forgot about my blog. I am going to try and do better again. We shall see how long this lasts.
Well, B and I have survived our first summer in North Dakota. Which you may not think would be that difficult. It actually gets really hot in the summer, it surprised me! Also, TORNADOS! I had my first run to the walk in freezer and wait for the tornado to pass over our building moment! Pretty wild! However, there are not many thunderstorms here. I miss North Carolina summer thunder storms. The heavy rain, wind, crazy thunder and lightning come after a day of miserable heat and humidity. I miss sitting in front of the glass door and watching the lightning storms and watch them pass. Leaving the sky blue again and the smell of summer rain all around.
The worst part about summer in North Dakota is not the weather, the heat I can deal with. The random tornado drills aren’t that scary. What is scary, is the state bird of North Dakota….the blood thirsty, out at the crack of dawn even if it is still 60 degrees outside, will bite you through your pants while you are walking your dog, pesticide resistant, will last through a nuclear attack….MOSQUITO.
DAMN YOU MOSQUITOS!! As soon as the weather is nice and your toes and fingers start to thaw and you think it is safe to go outside, the mosquitos are there, ready to attack. Blake of course doesn’t get bitten. I think that should say something about him. I could go out with four pounds of mosquito spray and wrap myself from head to toe in mosquito netting and still be covered in itchy red bumps.
BUT! The good news about spring/summer in North Dakota, grilling out, bonfires and yard selling!
As well as surviving our first summer, we have lived through our first winter. With only one instance of thinking I was going to die in a snow drift during a white out blizzard on New Year’s Eve, I made it through the winter unscathed. I will not be providing any further details about how or why I was in the snow drift or how I thought I was going to lose my hands to the cold and have them replaced by hooks.
I will say that, the winter is survivable! You think you can prepare yourself for it, you think, ok, it gets to be -40degrees, ok, I think I can handle that. YOU HAVE NO IDEA UNTIL YOU EXPERIENCE THAT. People who say that anything below 0 degrees is all the same, obviously has never felt anything below 0 degrees because they would never say it again. Some days when I had to go out, I would just get mad. I would be so mad at how cold it was, how it literally burned into your bones and you can literally feel the snot freezing inside of your nose. There were several times that B and I had snot sickles. Sexy, I know, but a common thing here in January.
Another thing you don’t get used to, walking on ice. There is no cool or graceful way to do it and you fall, a lot and you see other people fall. It’s funny, because to me, there is nothing funnier than seeing someone fall, especially all the way down…on their backs…with their legs up in the air. But up here, to the “locals” it’s just another thing. EVERY ONE SLIPS AND FALLS. I still think it is funny, not when I do of course, but it is very funny to see my husband, slipping and flinging his arms around in the air trying to catch himself!
Now, here we are, working on our second year here in Grand Forks. I can’t believe it has been a year. Getting ready to start our second summer and looking forward to all the things that are happening in our lives this year
More to come, very soon!
